ALOR SETAR — Authorities in Kedah have taken three individuals into custody as part of an ongoing investigation into suspected graft related to government procurement of sports equipment and clothing.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) detained the suspects, including a senior government officer, following allegations that approximately RM155,000 was misappropriated through irregular supply transactions. The arrests were made as investigators seek to determine the extent of the suspected irregularities and identify any other parties involved.
The MACC has intensified its focus on procurement practices within state government departments, particularly those involving supplies and equipment. Officials indicated that preliminary findings suggest deliberate manipulation of procurement procedures to benefit certain vendors or individuals.
The detainees are expected to assist investigators in clarifying the transaction details and establishing the chain of responsibility. The case adds to mounting concerns about transparency in government purchasing processes across the region, with authorities pledging continued vigilance against corrupt practices in the public sector.
