Kedah flood evacuees surge to 192 as waters recede across region

KUALA LUMPUR — Flooding across northern Malaysia has displaced nearly 200 residents, with Kedah bearing the brunt of the deluge as 192 evacuees are being sheltered at temporary relief centres (PPS) throughout the state.

The situation has extended beyond Kedah's borders, with a further 16 people remaining displaced in neighbouring Perlis. The dual-state impact underscores the scale of the weather event affecting the region.

Local authorities have activated emergency protocols and established multiple relief centres to provide shelter, food, and basic supplies to those evacuated from flood-affected areas. Rescue and relief operations continue as water levels are monitored across both states.

The flooding comes amid the northeast monsoon season, which typically brings heavy rainfall to Malaysia's northern and eastern regions. Residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas have been advised to remain alert and follow guidance from local authorities regarding evacuation procedures and weather warnings.
