Kedarnath pilgrim killed in boulder strike during landslide crisis
A 65-year-old man died after being struck by falling boulders near Kedarnath in Uttarakhand on Sunday, as the hill shrine temporarily halted pilgrim movement due to heavy rain and landslide warnings.

The fatal incident occurred near the Cheerbasa Helipad in the sacred Kedarnath valley, one of the four principal pilgrimage sites in the Himalayas. Authorities said the man was struck by rocks that dislodged amid unstable terrain conditions triggered by sustained rainfall in the region.
The Kedarnath shrine, situated at an altitude of 3,584 metres in Rudraprayag district, suspended pilgrim access temporarily as a precautionary measure following the landslide warnings. Heavy monsoon conditions have rendered several trekking routes in the area hazardous, with rockfalls reported at multiple locations along key pilgrimage trails.
