Kelantan readies RM3.5m relief package ahead of monsoon season

The Kelantan Social Welfare Department (JKM) has earmarked approximately RM3.5 million in funding to strengthen its operational readiness ahead of the Northeast Monsoon season, which typically brings heavy rainfall and flooding to the state.

As part of the preparedness initiative, the department has established 451 relief centres distributed across Kelantan's districts, complemented by 162 forward bases strategically positioned to enable faster response times during emergencies. These facilities are designed to serve as assembly points for relief supplies and coordination hubs for evacuation and assistance operations.

The scale of the deployment reflects lessons learned from previous monsoon seasons, during which Kelantan has consistently experienced significant flooding. State authorities have indicated that the relief infrastructure will be staffed and resourced to manage the displacement and welfare needs of affected residents.

Officials have stressed the importance of community awareness and preparedness in conjunction with government efforts. Residents in flood-prone areas are urged to remain vigilant and follow advisories issued by relevant agencies as the monsoon season approaches.
