Kenyan Runner Chepkirui Reclaims New York Marathon Title

NUEVA YORK — Kenyan distance runner Sheila Chepkirui secured victory at the New York City Marathon on Sunday, crossing the finish line in 2 hours, 24 minutes and 36 seconds to reclaim the title she previously held.

The triumph marks Chepkirui's return to the top of one of the world's most prestigious marathon events. Her dominant performance saw her maintain her lead through the latter stages of the 26-mile course that winds through the five boroughs of New York City.

American competitor Jess McClain mounted a spirited challenge in the race's final stretch, making a strong sprint toward the end but ultimately finishing in the runner-up position. McClain's second-place effort reflected the competitive field that gathered for the annual autumn marathon.

Sunday's race drew elite runners from across the globe, with the New York City Marathon remaining one of the most coveted titles in international distance running. Chepkirui's victory adds to Kenya's strong tradition of distance-running excellence on the global stage.
