Kerala Assembly divided over power crisis; Opposition blames government
The Kerala Legislative Assembly witnessed sharp exchanges on Wednesday as opposition parties accused the ruling UDF government of deliberately creating an electricity crisis to benefit private corporate interests in the power sector.

During proceedings in the state assembly, CPI legislator G.R. Anil moved an adjournment motion, alleging that the ongoing power situation in Kerala was artificially engineered with the knowledge and complicity of the UDF administration. The opposition parties contended that the crisis had been deliberately orchestrated to create space for corporate entities to gain entry into the state's power sector.
The adjournment motion triggered heated debate between the ruling and opposition benches, with lawmakers trading accusations over the handling of Kerala's electricity supply. The LDF sought to hold the government accountable for what it termed a manufactured crisis affecting consumers across the state.
The ruling UDF coalition rejected the opposition's charges, defending its management of the power sector amid what officials described as genuine supply and infrastructure challenges. Government representatives maintained that they were taking appropriate steps to address electricity availability and ensure reliable power distribution to households and industries.
The issue reflects broader political tensions in the state assembly, with the opposition using the power situation as a focal point to criticize government policies and alleged favoritism toward private sector players in essential services.
