Kerala Cabinet to dissolve Loka Kerala Sabha, establish new framework

The Kerala Cabinet has approved the dissolution of the Loka Kerala Sabha, signalling a significant shift in the state's approach to diaspora engagement and welfare. The decision comes as the government moves to restructure how it interfaces with the Kerala diaspora globally.

To facilitate the transition and develop a new framework, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has constituted a cabinet sub-committee comprising key ministerial portfolios. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty, Health Minister K. Muraleedharan, and Water Resources Minister Mons Joseph have been tasked with formulating the alternative mechanism.

The Loka Kerala Sabha, established as an institutional bridge between the government and the non-resident Keralite community, has been a significant platform for addressing diaspora concerns and channelling their contributions to state development. The cabinet's decision to replace it with a new structure suggests the government's intent to modernise and streamline engagement with the diaspora.
