Kerala CM charts ambitious vision to transform state into integrated port city

Kerala's new government is working to create an integrated port-based logistics network that would effectively transform the entire state into a single port city, Chief Minister V D Satheesan said on Friday. Speaking to media, Satheesan outlined a broad economic vision encompassing aviation, maritime infrastructure, tourism, MSMEs and education sectors.

The UDF administration has initiated plans to interconnect the state's ports and optimise its extensive 600-kilometre coastline. "We want to integrate all these ports and make the entire Kerala into a port city," Satheesan said, noting that the work is progressing with support from maritime and shipping experts.

Expanding aviation and maritime sectors figures prominently among the government's priorities. However, Satheesan cautioned that any proposed share transfer involving the Vizhinjam Seaport must protect Kerala's interests and prevent monopolistic control. The project is part of a broader strategy to energise the state's economy through coordinated infrastructure development and foreign investment in key sectors.
