Kerala CM inaugurates export operations at Vizhinjam international port
Chief Minister V D Satheesan flagged off the first containers from Vizhinjam port on Tuesday, marking the formal start of export-import operations at Kerala's newly operational international seaport. Satheesan, accompanied by state Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty and Congress legislator M Vincent, oversaw the departure of two containers in a ceremony marking the commencement of commercial EXIM activities at the deep-water port facility near Thiruvananthapuram.
The Chief Minister said the state government has been engaged in strategic consultations with investor groups to identify opportunities for scaling trade operations through the port. He emphasized the administration's commitment to providing comprehensive support, regulatory facilitation, and infrastructure backing to enable businesses to expand global export activities.
"The Arabian Sea, which has historically welcomed traders and travelers from across the world, is now opening the door to a new era of development for Kerala," Satheesan stated in reference to the state's maritime heritage.
The operational commencement at Vizhinjam represents a significant development in Kerala's economic infrastructure, positioning the facility to compete with established ports in the region and potentially attract major shipping lines and trading enterprises to the state.
