Kerala CM Says Legal Review Needed Before ED FIR Decision Against Vijayan

Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan said on Monday that the state government would conduct a thorough legal review before deciding on the Enforcement Directorate's request for registering a first information report against former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, his daughter T. Veena, and former Health Minister Mohamed Riyas.

Satheesan described the allegations raised by the ED in its letter as "major" in nature. The central agency has sought the FIR under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act in connection with the contentious Kochi Metro Rail Limited project.

The Chief Minister's statement suggests the government intends to exercise caution in responding to the ED's request, signalling that legal considerations will weigh heavily on the final decision. The CMRL case has been a subject of intense political scrutiny in Kerala, with allegations of financial irregularities.
