Kerala CM seeks urgent safety review of National Highway 66

Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has appealed to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to conduct an urgent and detailed assessment of safety protocols on National Highway 66 in Kerala. The letter underscores growing concerns about accident prevention and road safety standards on the crucial transport corridor.

In his communication, Satheesan has highlighted the need for enhanced traffic management systems along the highway, emphasizing that improved regulation could significantly reduce road incidents. He has also called for better signage and road markings to guide motorists and prevent congestion-related accidents.

The Chief Minister has further requested stricter enforcement against illegal parking on the highway, which he contends poses a serious safety risk to commuters and disrupts traffic flow. The measures proposed aim to address gaps in current safety infrastructure and operational procedures.

NH-66, a major arterial road serving multiple states in southern and western India, carries significant vehicular traffic daily. The appeal from the Kerala government reflects broader concerns among state administrations about maintaining road safety standards on national highways passing through their jurisdictions.
