Kerala district to launch eco-friendly boating at two reservoirs

The Idukki district administration has greenlit a tourism initiative to enhance visitor experiences at two major water bodies through sustainable boating operations. The move comes as authorities seek to bolster leisure tourism while maintaining ecological standards in the region.

Boating services at the Peruvannamuzhi reservoir, which had been suspended, are slated for resumption under the new plan. Additionally, Thonikadavu reservoir will see the introduction of a boating service for the first time, expanding recreation options for tourists and local visitors across the district.

Environmental concerns have guided the selection of vessels for both locations. Solar-powered boats will be deployed to minimize pollution and reduce the carbon footprint associated with traditional fuel-powered watercraft. The technology aligns with Kerala's broader sustainability goals for tourism development.
