Kerala eyes Thrissur, Kasaragod sites for national Ayurveda institute

Kerala is advancing plans to establish an All-India Institute of Ayurveda within the state, with the government identifying two prospective locations for the ambitious project. The proposed sites include over 200 acres each in Vettilappara Grama Panchayat in Thrissur district and Cheemeni Grama Panchayat in Kasaragod district, both offering substantial land availability for the institute's infrastructure development.

The dual-location strategy reflects the government's commitment to establishing a world-class facility dedicated to Ayurveda research, education, and therapeutic practice. The institute is expected to attract scholars, practitioners, and patients from across India and internationally, strengthening Kerala's position as a centre of excellence in traditional and alternative medicine.

With over 200 acres identified at each location, the proposed institute would have ample space for academic facilities, research laboratories, clinical wings, and residential accommodation. Both Thrissur and Kasaragod have existing Ayurveda infrastructure and practitioners, providing a conducive environment for such a specialized institution.

The project aligns with India's broader initiatives to promote Ayurveda and other traditional medicine systems. An All-India Institute would provide structured platforms for scientific validation of Ayurvedic practices, training of qualified practitioners, and documentation of traditional knowledge systems. Kerala authorities are expected to move forward with detailed feasibility studies and site assessments in the coming months to determine the most suitable location for the facility.
