Kerala fills cultural leadership vacuum with new arts akademi heads
Kerala has appointed new leadership to three of its premier cultural institutions following a four-month period without permanent heads. The appointments include a prominent writer, a renowned singer, and an accomplished production designer.

Writer Kalpetta Narayanan has been named the new leader of the Sahitya Akademi, Kerala's premier literary institution, according to official announcements. The appointment brings an end to a protracted leadership vacuum that had lasted four months across multiple cultural bodies in the state.
Singer G. Venugopal has been appointed to head the Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, the state's principal institution for music and theatre. The seasoned vocalist brings extensive experience in classical music and cultural promotion to the position.
Production designer Prof. Prakash Moorthy will assume charge as chairman of the Lalithakala Akademi, which oversees visual arts and design initiatives in Kerala. His appointment completes the leadership restructuring of the three major akademis, which had operated without permanent heads for several months.
The appointments are expected to reinvigorate cultural programmes and institutional activities across literature, performing arts, and visual arts in the state. Each of the three akademis plays a significant role in promoting Kerala's rich cultural heritage and supporting artists across their respective disciplines.
