The Kerala Home Department on Thursday formally established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a comprehensive examination into allegations that the previous Left Democratic Front government improperly collaborated with a private sponsor in connection with a sporting event. The SIT, headed by ADGP (Law and Order) P. Vijayan, has been tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the sponsorship arrangement and the decision-making process that preceded it. The United Democratic Front government, which assumed office following recent elections, has framed the probe's terms of reference to assess whether established protocols were followed and whether public interest was adequately safeguarded during the negotiations. Officials indicated that the investigation would examine communications between government officials and the private sponsor, as well as the rationale behind key decisions taken by the former administration. The probe is expected to determine whether any irregularities or procedural lapses occurred in the management of the sponsorship deal. The SIT's findings are likely to inform discussions about oversight mechanisms and transparency standards in future government-private sector collaborations in the state.
