Kerala government reconstitutes state Waqf Board with IUML leader as chair

The Kerala government has completed the reconstitution of the State Waqf Board, a key body responsible for managing Muslim religious endowments and properties across the southern state. MC Mains Hajji, a prominent figure in the Indian Union Muslim League, has been appointed as the board's chairman in the restructuring announced by the UDF administration.

The reorganisation also saw the appointment of IUML legislator Kurukkoli Moideen to the board's membership, strengthening the coalition party's representation in the institution. The Waqf Board oversees the administration and regulation of wakf properties—assets endowed by Muslims for religious and charitable purposes—across Kerala.

This reconstitution reflects the UDF government's approach to key institutional appointments within its coalition structure. The Waqf Board plays a crucial role in Kerala's minority community affairs, managing numerous religious sites, educational institutions, and charitable organisations funded through wakf assets throughout the state.
