The Kerala government has undertaken a complete overhaul of the state's Waqf Board, dissolving the previous administration headed by K.S. Hamza and constituting a new nine-member body. M.C. Mayin Haji, a senior leader of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), has been appointed as the board's chairman.
The reconstitution marks a significant administrative reshuffle in the governance of waqf properties and religious endowments across Kerala. The move comes as the UDF government continues implementing policy changes within key state institutions.
Waqf Boards in India are statutory bodies responsible for managing properties donated for religious and charitable purposes under Islamic law. The Kerala Waqf Board oversees considerable religious and community assets across the state, making its leadership a significant appointment within the administration.
The appointment of Mayin Haji reflects the IUML's position within the ruling UDF coalition government in Kerala. The party has traditionally held key positions in state governance structures related to minority community affairs.
