Kerala government seeks nod to prosecute former minister over Argentina trip

The Kerala government is moving to seek the Governor's approval to file a case against V. Abdurahiman, the former Sports Minister, over his handling of a proposed visit by an Argentine football delegation. The action follows findings by a special investigation team that uncovered serious procedural breaches in the organisation of the tour.

The investigation committee, constituted to examine the controversial proposal, identified multiple violations of established protocols and procedures. Based on these findings, the team has recommended that criminal proceedings be initiated against Abdurahiman under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, which addresses offences of criminal misconduct by public servants.

The former minister had overseen the initial arrangements for the Argentine team's visit when he held the sports portfolio. Government officials said the investigation revealed deviations from standard administrative and financial procedures that warranted legal action.

Under Kerala's legal framework, prosecuting a former minister in cases involving potential corruption requires prior approval from the state Governor. The government is expected to formally place its request before the Governor's office in the coming days following the investigation team's recommendations.

The matter has drawn considerable attention in Kerala's political circles, with questions raised about administrative oversight and accountability in sports ministry operations. Abdurahiman has not yet publicly responded to the investigation team's findings.
