Kerala HC dismisses plea by Vijayan family in CMRL payoff case

A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court has dealt a setback to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his family members by dismissing their pleas against an FIR registration order in the controversial CMRL payoff case.

The bench rejected applications filed by Vijayan, his daughter T. Veena, and son-in-law Mohamed Riyas, upholding the Single Judge's order issued on October 9. The case pertains to alleged irregularities in a contract awarded by the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL).

While dismissing the pleas, the Division Bench clarified that its decision does not restrict the applicants' right to pursue other constitutional or statutory remedies against the FIR registration. This leaves open avenues for the family members to challenge the order through additional legal channels.

The case has drawn significant attention given the involvement of the state's chief minister and his immediate family. The CMRL contract matter has been subject to multiple judicial scrutiny over the past months, with various petitions and counter-petitions filed in the high court.
