The Kerala High Court Division Bench has issued directions to the Kerala Water Authority (KWA), Devaswom Board, and other concerned agencies to ensure readiness ahead of the Sabarimala pilgrimage season.
The court was considering two reports submitted by Sabarimala Special Commissioner R. Jayakrishnan that assessed critical infrastructure needs in the region. The reports highlighted waste management concerns during the 'maasa puja' and festival seasons in Erumely, as well as maintenance requirements for KWA's primary water supply installations.
Key areas of concern included the need for repairs to KWA's main booster stations located at Neelimala and Appachimedu. These facilities are essential for ensuring adequate water supply to handle the large influx of pilgrims who visit the Lord Ayyappa temple during peak seasons.
The court's intervention underscores ongoing challenges in managing sanitation and basic amenities during peak pilgrimage periods at one of South India's most significant religious destinations. The directive aims to ensure that all preparatory measures are completed before the commencement of the pilgrimage season.
