Kerala High Court Orders FIR Against CM Vijayan Over Asset Accumulation Allegations

The Kerala High Court has ordered the registration of an FIR against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his relatives, acting on an Enforcement Directorate report submitted in connection with ongoing investigations into alleged financial irregularities.

The directive came after an advocate, K.M. Shajahan, filed a petition before the court seeking initiation of criminal proceedings. Shajahan had previously approached the State Police Chief and the Director of Vigilance with a complaint detailing allegations against the Chief Minister and family members.

According to the petition, the allegations include disproportionate asset accumulation, intentional enrichment, and violations under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Additionally, the complaint names Vijayan's family members T. Veena and Riyas in connection with alleged money laundering activities.

The High Court's order directs law enforcement authorities to proceed with formal investigation based on the ED's findings and the material presented in the petition. The development marks a significant escalation in the inquiry into the financial dealings of the Chief Minister and his family.

The case stems from earlier complaints regarding unexplained wealth acquisition that allegedly occurred during Vijayan's tenure in public office. Authorities are now expected to initiate a comprehensive investigation into the claims raised by the petitioner.
