The Kerala High Court has issued directions to the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) to ensure adequate basic facilities for pilgrims visiting the Sabarimala shrine through the Erumely route. The directive comes in response to persistent complaints from devotees regarding inadequate amenities and poor coordination at the pilgrimage center.
As part of the court's order, a Deputy Collector will be appointed to oversee operations and facilitate better coordination among various agencies involved in managing pilgrim services. The officer will be tasked with addressing complaints from devotees and ensuring timely resolution of issues that arise during the pilgrimage season.
Erumely serves as a crucial gateway for lakhs of pilgrims undertaking the journey to the Sabarimala temple in the Western Ghats. The High Court's intervention reflects concerns about the quality of facilities available to devotees during their pilgrimage, particularly regarding sanitation, drinking water, medical services, and crowd management.
The TDB, which manages the Sabarimala shrine, has been directed to take immediate steps to improve infrastructure and coordinate with local authorities to deliver better services. The court's order underscores the need for systematic management of pilgrim facilities at one of India's most visited religious sites.
