Kerala High Court Orders Meta to Block Video of Activist's Sabarimala Remarks
A Kerala High Court judge has found a video containing a social activist's comments about Sabarimala deities to be offensive and directed Meta to temporarily remove it from its platforms. The court determined that allowing the video to remain online would cause harm to the religious sentiments of Sabarimala devotees.

The Kerala High Court took cognizance of the matter after reviewing the disputed video in open court. The judge, after examining the content, concluded that the activist's remarks regarding the deities worshipped at the Sabarimala temple were objectionable and capable of causing offense to the devotional community.
The court found that the continued presence of the video on social media platforms would be detrimental to the religious beliefs and sentiments of Sabarimala pilgrims. Taking into account the sensitivities surrounding the ancient hilltop shrine, which attracts millions of worshippers annually, the court deemed it necessary to intervene.
Meta Platforms, which owns Facebook and Instagram, has been directed to temporarily block access to the video. The order reflects the court's assessment that the material in question crosses the threshold of acceptable discourse when it touches upon matters of religious faith and practice.
The Sabarimala temple in Pathanamthitta district is one of Kerala's most significant pilgrimage destinations and has been at the centre of several legal and social debates in recent years, particularly regarding traditions and contemporary values.
