A division bench of the Kerala High Court has upheld the conviction and 10-year imprisonment awarded to a man found guilty of raping an elderly woman in the state. The court's order came after reviewing the evidence and circumstances of the case, determining that the lower court's verdict was legally sound and supported by the facts on record.
In addition to confirming the jail term, the High Court cancelled the bail previously granted to the convict. The bench directed him to surrender before the trial court forthwith to commence serving his sentence, effectively ending any legal reprieve he may have secured during the appeals process.
The case reflects Kerala's judiciary's commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society and ensuring that perpetrators of sexual violence face appropriate legal consequences. The High Court's decision reinforces the seriousness with which Indian courts treat crimes against elderly persons, who are among society's most susceptible populations.
The conviction and sentence underscore the state's efforts to combat sexual crimes while providing justice to survivors. The case has proceeded through multiple judicial stages, with the appellate court's affirmation marking a significant milestone in the legal process.
