Kerala has advanced its plans to establish an AIIMS facility in the state by identifying 10 candidate sites across various districts. Health Minister K. Muraleedharan disclosed the development while responding to a calling attention motion in the Kerala Assembly on Wednesday.
Collectors from Kottayam, Kasaragod, and Thrissur districts have submitted comprehensive reports evaluating their respective locations for the proposed medical institute. These assessments are presently being examined by Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan's office as part of the formal evaluation process.
AIIMS institutions are premier government medical facilities that offer advanced tertiary healthcare, medical education, and research opportunities. The establishment of such a facility in Kerala would significantly enhance the state's healthcare infrastructure and provide specialized medical services to patients across South India.
The state has been pursuing the establishment of an AIIMS as part of its broader healthcare modernization strategy. The final site selection is expected to follow a comprehensive assessment of factors including land availability, accessibility, existing healthcare infrastructure, and developmental potential of the proposed locations.
