Kerala's cabinet has greenlit a ₹1,000-crore housing programme aimed at improving living conditions for economically disadvantaged SC and ST families across the state. The scheme will provide shelter assistance to approximately 25,000 Scheduled Caste families and 7,000 Scheduled Tribe families, according to Minister K.A. Thulasi.
As part of the initiative, the state government has substantially increased housing assistance amounts across multiple categories. For SC families, the assistance has been enhanced from ₹4 lakh to ₹6 lakh per unit. Similarly, ST families will now receive ₹6 lakh in assistance, up from the previous ₹4 lakh allocation.
The government has also prioritized housing development in geographically challenging areas by increasing assistance for properties in remote locations from ₹6 lakh to ₹8 lakh. This enhanced support reflects the administration's commitment to addressing housing disparities and improving accessibility to shelter across diverse terrain and demographic areas.
The comprehensive scheme represents one of the state's largest housing interventions targeting marginalized communities and is expected to significantly contribute to social welfare and infrastructure development across Kerala.
