Kerala launches crackdown on unauthorised digital service centres

Authorities in Wayanad have announced a comprehensive enforcement campaign targeting unauthorised digital service centres that are operating in violation of established guidelines. The operation, set to commence in the coming weeks, aims to identify and regulate centres providing online services without requisite permissions from relevant authorities.

The drive will be conducted jointly by the Local Self-Government department and the State IT Mission, combining resources to ensure effective implementation across the district. Officials will conduct surprise inspections at suspected locations to verify compliance with operational standards and proper registration requirements.

Unauthorised service centres have emerged as a growing concern in several districts across Kerala, with complaints regarding fraudulent transactions and inadequate consumer protection measures. The enforcement action seeks to safeguard citizens from potential digital fraud while ensuring that legitimate service providers operate under a level regulatory framework.

District administrations have directed officials to maintain records of inspected centres and compile violations for further action. Service centres found operating without authorisation will be directed to cease operations or obtain necessary clearances from competent authorities. The department has also urged citizens to report suspected illegal centres to local authorities to aid the enforcement efforts.
