Kerala liquor sales surge ahead of Onam festival season

Alcohol sales in Kerala have climbed significantly during the Onam season, with the state's beverages authority recording robust purchasing patterns ahead of the major harvest festival. The Beverage Corporation of Kerala (Bevco) documented sales worth ₹970.74 crore during the recent Onam period, marking a notable increase from ₹842.07 crore in the corresponding season the previous year.

The year-on-year growth of approximately 15 percent underscores the heightened consumer spending associated with Onam celebrations, when families and communities gather for festivities spanning several weeks. The spike in liquor sales traditionally coincides with increased household purchases and social gatherings during this significant Kerala festival.

Bevco's performance metrics provide insight into consumer behavior patterns during peak seasonal periods in the state. The corporation, which operates as the monopoly retailer for alcoholic beverages in Kerala, serves as a key indicator of festive-season economic activity across the region.

The sales figures suggest sustained demand for spirits, beer, and other alcoholic products among Kerala's consumer base, reflecting both cultural consumption patterns and the festive mood that characterizes the Onam season, which typically spans August and September.
