Kerala man fatally gored by wild gaur during animal control operation

A man lost his life in a wild gaur attack in Vilangad while attempting to drive the animal away from an agricultural field on Wednesday. The victim was working alongside Forest Department officials when the incident occurred, leaving the operation to contain the animal tragically cut short.

Wild gaurs, India's largest wild cattle species, are known for their aggressive behaviour when confronted or threatened. The animals inhabit forested regions across South and Southeast Asia, and encounters with humans often occur when they venture into agricultural areas in search of food and water.

Forest Department teams had mobilised to address the animal's presence in the cultivated area when the fatal confrontation took place. The incident underscores the persistent challenges faced by both forest authorities and rural communities in managing wildlife encroachment into human-inhabited spaces.

The state has experienced several wildlife-related casualties in recent years as human settlements continue to expand into forest peripheries.
