Kerala Muslim faction ends Waqf board reconstitution protest

The Kanthapuram Sunni faction has withdrawn its protest campaign against the reconstitution of the Kerala Waqf Board, ending weeks of opposition to the restructuring process. The decision came after assurances from the state government regarding the faction's representation in the reorganised board.

P.A. Mohammed Samsudheen, the state minister overseeing the matter, confirmed that the faction would receive a nominee position on the reconstituted board. This development resolved the impasse that had threatened to derail the administrative restructuring.

The Waqf Board reconstitution had triggered concerns among various Muslim community factions regarding their institutional representation and influence in the board's functioning. The Kanthapuram Sunni faction's participation in the reconstituted body is expected to broaden the board's representational base.

The agreement marks a significant step toward consensus among Kerala's diverse Muslim community groups on the management of waqf properties and religious endowments. Officials indicated that the reconstituted board would now proceed with its mandate to oversee waqf administration across the state.
