Kerala Opposition Demands Reversal of NoRKA Care Insurance Premium Hike
Opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan has called on the Kerala government to roll back a sharp increase in premiums for the NoRKA Care insurance scheme, citing the burden on non-resident Keralites and their families.

Vijayan raised concerns over the substantial premium increase for family floater policies under the NoRKA Care scheme, which offers coverage of ₹5 lakh. The opposition leader pointed out that premiums for such policies have surged from ₹13,411 to a range between ₹35,664 and ₹77,773, representing a significant financial burden for policy holders.
The sharp escalation in premium rates has drawn criticism from various quarters concerned about affordability and accessibility of the health insurance product. The NoRKA Care scheme, which targets non-resident Keralites, forms an important component of the state's health insurance infrastructure for the diaspora community.
Vijayan's intervention marks the opposition's challenge to the state government's handling of the insurance scheme. The demand for reversal of the hike reflects broader concerns about the sustainability of health coverage for Kerala's non-resident population, particularly families relying on diaspora remittances.
The government has not yet responded to the opposition's demand for rolling back the premium increases. The matter has gained attention as premium affordability remains a critical issue for the target beneficiary group of the scheme.
