Kerala PE Teacher Arrested Over False Claims of Worms in Sports Meet Food

Police in Kerala have arrested a physical education teacher who alleged that worms were discovered in food served to students participating in a State Sports Meet. The instructor had posted the allegation on Facebook, claiming food quality standards were compromised during the event.

Following the social media post, event organisers conducted an immediate inspection of the food supplies and serving facilities. Officials determined that the allegations were unfounded, with no evidence of contamination or worms in any of the meals provided.

State officials have characterised the incident as a deliberate attempt to damage the event's reputation. A government minister stated that the false claims amounted to a conspiracy against the smooth conduct of the sports meet.

The arrest has raised questions about the balance between addressing legitimate food safety concerns and preventing the spread of misinformation through social media platforms. The case is being investigated further by local authorities.
