Kerala pensioner scales Europe's highest peak at 74

T.J. Marce, a 74-year-old from Wayanad in Kerala, has achieved a remarkable mountaineering feat by conquering Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe. Marce summited the 5,642-metre (18,510 feet) mountain on August 15 as part of an expedition team comprising four other climbers from Kerala, demonstrating that age is no barrier to pursuing adventurous goals.

The expedition spanned eight days, during which the climbing team navigated treacherous conditions and extreme weather patterns typical of high-altitude mountaineering in the Caucasus region. The choice of August 15 for the summit attempt—India's Independence Day—added a patriotic dimension to the achievement, with the team reaching the peak on the nation's significant date.

Mount Elbrus, located in the Caucasus Mountains between Russia and Georgia, is widely recognized as the highest mountain in Europe.
