Authorities in Kerala's Kannur district have apprehended a long-sought fugitive in a significant breakthrough for a case that has remained open for 29 years. The suspect, identified as Fazal, was arrested following extensive investigations into his whereabouts.
Fazal had been absconding since January 1997, when he allegedly attacked Sunil Kumar, a resident of Azhikode, with a sharp weapon. A case for attempt to murder was registered against him at the time, but he managed to evade capture for nearly three decades.
The arrest comes after sustained police efforts to track down the fugitive. Investigators traced his movements and location, culminating in his apprehension in Kannur. The case is now expected to progress toward prosecution following his custody.
