Kerala Police have registered charges against social media influencer Darren for allegedly posting content deemed communally divisive and hateful on Instagram, according to law enforcement officials. The action comes as part of ongoing efforts to monitor social media platforms for incitement and divisive messaging.
Among those whose actions have drawn attention is Diya Krishna, daughter of BJP leader and National Film Development Council chairperson G. Krishnan Kumar. Krishna shared Darren's post on her own social media account, subsequently claiming she had endorsed it as a reflection of a "sad reality" without viewing the complete video. She stated that her engagement with the content was made without full awareness of its entirety.
According to reports, Darren's posts also included criticism of the United Democratic Front government in Kerala, with allegations that the administration was accepting funding from Arab nations to promote Islamic causes within the state. The specific nature of the posts and the exact charges filed by police remain subjects of investigation.
The case highlights growing concerns among Indian law enforcement agencies regarding the spread of potentially inflammatory content across social media platforms, particularly content that may exacerbate communal tensions. Kerala Police have emphasized their commitment to addressing such violations while respecting free speech protections under Indian law.
