The political row over Kerala's power procurement has intensified, with opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan levelling fresh allegations against the state government. Vijayan accused Chief Minister Satheesan of deliberately creating an artificial crisis surrounding the power purchase deal to deflect attention from governance failures.
In a statement challenging the administration's handling of the matter, Vijayan contended that the Chief Minister had been "openly misleading" the public regarding the electricity agreement. He alleged that such conduct amounted to a violation of Satheesan's constitutional oath of office, which binds him to uphold transparency and public interest.
The opposition leader called for immediate disclosure of all government files and documents pertaining to the power purchase arrangement. Vijayan argued that making these records public would demonstrate whether the government had acted in the state's interest or prioritized other considerations in finalizing the deal.
The dispute underscores growing tensions between the ruling UDF government and the opposition over energy policy and procurement practices in the southern state. Power sector management has emerged as a significant political flashpoint ahead of coming electoral contests.
