The Ernakulam district administration has moved forward with plans to establish the J.C. Daniel Film City, a proposed entertainment hub in Kerala, by identifying a 30-acre parcel at KINFRA's Petrochemicals Park in Ambalamugal as the potential site. The proposal has been formally submitted to the state government for consideration and approval.
The film city project is intended to support Kerala's growing creative industries and provide world-class infrastructure for filmmaking and content production. Named after the legendary Malayalam filmmaker J.C. Daniel, the facility aims to attract both domestic and international film production units to the state.
According to the proposal, the development will be undertaken using a public-private partnership model, which is expected to facilitate efficient implementation and sustainable operations. This approach would allow the government to leverage private sector expertise and investment while maintaining oversight of the project.
The identification of the Ambalamugal site within KINFRA's existing industrial park infrastructure presents advantages for rapid development, as the location already has established utilities and connectivity. The proposal now awaits government review and formal approval before moving to the next stage of implementation.
The establishment of dedicated film production infrastructure aligns with Kerala's efforts to strengthen its position as a destination for film and television content creation in India.
