Kerala railway workers oppose Palakkad division reorganisation plan

Railway unions in Kerala have voiced serious objections to plans for the reorganisation of the Palakkad division, citing potential disruption to the livelihoods of established staff members. The Southern Railway Employees' Sangh has highlighted that the move could adversely affect workers across the region's transport infrastructure.

According to union functionaries, approximately 90 percent of the workforce stationed at major facilities including Mangaluru Central, Mangaluru Junction, and Panambur railway stations comprise employees hailing from Kerala. These workers have been established in their current postings for extended periods and have built their professional and personal lives around their existing positions.

The proposed division bifurcation has raised concerns among railway staff associations about potential transfers and postings that could uproot long-serving employees from their current stations. Union representatives have warned that such restructuring could impact worker morale and operational continuity across the affected stations.

The reorganisation proposal comes as Indian Railways continues to evaluate its divisional structure to improve administrative efficiency. However, labour unions stress the importance of considering the human impact of such administrative changes on the existing workforce before implementation.
