Kerala raises IT hardware spending limit for senior officials
The Kerala government has increased the expenditure ceiling for information technology hardware purchases by senior officials and department heads. The move comes amid rising market prices for computing equipment.

Kerala's Electronics and Information Technology Department has raised the spending limit for IT hardware procurements, effective immediately. The ceiling has been increased from ₹1.5 lakh to ₹2 lakh per purchase, according to an order issued by the department's Special Secretary.
The revision applies to ministers, private secretaries, and department heads seeking to upgrade or replace computing equipment. According to the government order, the hike was necessitated by a considerable increase in market rates for commonly used IT hardware components and devices.
The ₹50,000 increase represents a nearly 33 per cent adjustment to the previous limit, reflecting current market conditions for laptops, desktops, and related peripherals. Officials said the enhanced ceiling would enable timely procurement of necessary equipment without requiring multiple approval layers.
The move is expected to streamline the procurement process for government officials while ensuring they have access to adequately configured computing systems for their administrative functions. Similar reviews of expenditure limits across various departments are periodically conducted by state governments to align budgetary provisions with market realities.
