Kerala rubber research facility designated as national testing centre

The Puthuppally facility of the Rubber Research Institute of India (RRII) in Kerala has received national model centre status for rubber clone testing, marking a significant development in the country's rubber research infrastructure.

As a designated national centre, the facility will undertake comprehensive scientific evaluation of rubber clones, focusing on identifying and documenting their distinct characteristics. The testing protocols will assess key parameters including distinctness, uniformity and stability of new rubber varieties, providing critical data for the agricultural sector.

The recognition reflects the facility's technical capabilities and established expertise in rubber research. By centralising clone testing at Puthuppally, the institute aims to standardise evaluation methodologies and ensure consistent assessment criteria across the rubber-growing regions of India.

Rubber cultivation remains economically significant for Kerala and other southern states. The development of superior clones with enhanced yield potential and disease resistance has long been a priority for Indian agricultural research.
