Kerala's anti-drug campaign files over 10,000 cases in enforcement push

Kerala's comprehensive anti-narcotics drive is gaining momentum with the state government outlining an expanded framework to combat drug trafficking and consumption. In remarks made during the Assembly, the state's Excise Minister detailed the 'Mayangilla Keralam' programme, which structures the campaign around four primary pillars designed to address the drug menace from multiple angles.

Enforcement forms the first pillar of the initiative, with Operation Thunder delivering significant results. The drive has registered over 10,000 cases, indicating an intensified crackdown on drug-related offences across the state. The enforcement operations target both supply and demand sides of the narcotics trade.

The remaining three pillars focus on awareness generation, de-addiction services and rehabilitation programmes. The multi-pronged approach seeks to create community consciousness about the dangers of drug abuse while simultaneously supporting those struggling with addiction through treatment and reintegration initiatives.

The state government's integrated strategy reflects recognition that effective drug control requires coordination between law enforcement agencies and public health systems. Officials indicated that the combination of strict enforcement coupled with awareness and rehabilitation efforts aims to create a sustainable reduction in drug-related problems across Kerala.
