The Kozhikode District Collector has ordered the closure of all beaches and seafronts across the district in response to hazardous wave conditions. The prohibition, issued by District Collector M. S. Madhavikutty, takes effect from midnight on August 19 and continues until midnight on August 20.
The sweeping ban encompasses all categories of beach users, including tourists, local residents, and commercial vendors who typically operate along the coastline. The measure aims to prevent accidents and ensure public safety during the period of elevated sea activity.
Higher-than-normal waves pose significant risks to swimmers and beachgoers, particularly in open water where currents can intensify dangerous conditions. Coastal districts across Kerala have faced similar weather patterns in recent weeks, prompting repeated safety advisories from maritime and meteorological authorities.
The restriction underscores ongoing concerns about sea safety during monsoon and post-monsoon periods, when oceanic conditions frequently become volatile. Authorities have urged residents and visitors to adhere strictly to the access ban and heed all official warnings regarding coastal activities.
