Kerala's organ transplant institute to be ready in 30 months, says CM

Kerala's government is moving ahead with plans to establish a comprehensive organ transplant institute in Kozhikode, with construction expected to be completed within 30 months, Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan announced. The state has allocated ₹271 crore for the project, which will be built on a 20-acre site in Chevayur.

The new institute represents a significant infrastructure investment aimed at enhancing transplant services in the region. By consolidating all organ transplantation-related services under a single facility, the state expects to streamline operations and improve efficiency in patient care.

A key objective of the project is to reduce the cost of transplant surgery. Officials project that bringing together all necessary services will enable the institute to cut surgical expenses to approximately one-third of current levels, making the procedures more accessible to patients.

The facility is envisioned as a specialized center that will handle the full spectrum of organ transplantation activities, from pre-transplant evaluation to post-operative care. The concentration of expertise and resources is expected to enhance surgical outcomes and operational effectiveness.
