The Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad (KSSP) has announced plans to undertake extensive campaigns focused on public health challenges facing Kerala, as the state grapples with increasing medical expenditure and disease burden.
According to seminar participants, Kerala faces a concerning convergence of health challenges. High morbidity rates, coupled with a surge in lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular ailments, are placing significant strain on both individuals and the healthcare system. The growing elderly population adds another dimension to this crisis, as age-related conditions require sustained medical intervention and care.
These interconnected factors have resulted in escalating treatment costs, making healthcare increasingly unaffordable for many residents. Public health experts at the seminar emphasized that preventive measures and community-based awareness campaigns are essential to mitigate the rising disease burden and contain costs.
The KSSP's proposed campaigns are expected to focus on health education, disease prevention, and lifestyle modification initiatives. Such grassroots efforts aim to empower citizens with knowledge about managing risk factors and adopting healthier practices, potentially reducing the incidence of preventable diseases and alleviating pressure on Kerala's healthcare infrastructure.
