Kerala student union vows to continue relay fast over university suspension
The Students' Federation of India said Monday it would persist with its relay fast protest against disciplinary action by Sanskrit University after the Supreme Court declined to intervene in the matter. The apex court's refusal to stay a Kerala High Court order barring students from sitting semester examinations has intensified the standoff.

The Students' Federation of India (SFI) announced it would maintain its relay fast demonstration until authorities revoke the disciplinary measures against students of Sanskrit University in Kerala without conditions. The protest escalated after the Supreme Court declined to grant interim relief on Monday, refusing to interfere with a Kerala High Court Division Bench directive that had barred the students from appearing in semester examinations.
The SFI's decision to sustain the relay fast represents an hardening of the student union's stance amid the legal impasse. The group had approached the Supreme Court hoping the apex court would set aside or suspend the High Court order, but that petition met resistance from the bench hearing the matter.
The standoff between the student organization and university authorities centres on the scope and nature of the disciplinary action initiated against the students. The SFI maintains that the university's measures are disproportionate and has demanded their unconditional withdrawal as a prerequisite for ending the protest.
With judicial avenues offering limited immediate relief, the relay fast has become the primary tool through which the student union aims to pressure the Sanskrit University administration to reconsider its position. The protest continues to draw attention to student grievances over disciplinary procedures at the institution.
