Kerala to convene special meet on Attappadi land rights dispute

Kerala's government has announced plans to hold a special meeting to tackle persistent land rights problems in Attappadi, signalling renewed focus on a contentious issue affecting vulnerable populations in the region.

Revenue Minister Anilkumar indicated that the state's Revenue department would move forward with issuing title deeds to members of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities, as well as fishing communities, following the conclusion of the government's 100-day action programme.

The move comes as part of broader efforts to address historical land disputes that have affected marginalised communities in the Attappadi region of Palakkad district. Officials have indicated that the dedicated meeting would serve to streamline the process of land rights documentation and accelerate the pace of deed issuance.

The announcement suggests the state government is prioritising land tenure security for economically disadvantaged groups, a key concern in rural Kerala where unclear property rights have long complicated development and livelihood efforts. The Revenue department's involvement underscores the administrative machinery being mobilised to resolve the matter systematically.
