The Kerala Legislative Assembly will serve as the venue for a significant two-day conference bringing together Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairpersons from 25 states across India. The gathering aims to facilitate dialogue and exchange of best practices among senior legislative functionaries responsible for scrutinizing public expenditure and government accounts.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will formally inaugurate the conference, underscoring the national importance of the event. The participation of over 300 public representatives, including Members of Parliament and Members of Legislative Assemblies from various states, reflects the broad-based engagement expected at the gathering.
Public Accounts Committees play a crucial role in India's parliamentary system, holding governments accountable for fiscal management and ensuring effective use of public funds. Such conferences provide platforms for PAC chairpersons to share experiences, discuss contemporary challenges in legislative oversight, and develop coordinated approaches to fiscal accountability across different state administrations.
The Kerala Assembly has established itself as an important venue for such national-level legislative forums, enabling state-level representatives to engage with peers and share governance insights. The two-day schedule is expected to accommodate plenary sessions, working group discussions, and deliberations on matters pertaining to parliamentary oversight mechanisms.
