Kerala UDF MPs demand BJP clarification on Palakkad railway division split

Members of Parliament from Kerala's United Democratic Front have intensified pressure on the central government over the mooted division of the Palakkad railway division, with the Kozhikode MP formally seeking a response from Union Minister Suresh Gopi on the issue.

The UDF delegation has raised concerns about the potential administrative reorganization and its implications for railway operations and employment in the region. The party has announced plans to stage a demonstration outside the Divisional Railway Manager's office in Palakkad on August 26 in a show of unified opposition to the proposal.

The planned protest represents a significant mobilization effort by the opposition alliance to highlight what members view as insufficient consultation with local stakeholders regarding railway infrastructure changes. Officials from the ministry have not yet made any formal public announcement regarding the bifurcation proposal.

The Palakkad division, which covers a significant portion of central Kerala, has been among the railway administration's key operational units in the southern region. Any proposed division would require detailed assessment of its operational feasibility and impact on regional connectivity.
