Kerala UDF Rules Out Reviving Loka Kerala Sabha in Previous Format

The United Democratic Front government in Kerala has firmly ruled out plans to revive the Loka Kerala Sabha in its earlier configuration, signaling a shift in approach to the state's engagement with the diaspora community. Opposition leader V.D. Satheesan clarified that the UDF's position on discontinuing the platform remains unchanged and represents a deliberate political decision by the coalition.

The Loka Kerala Sabha, which functioned during the previous Left Democratic Front administration, served as a consultative body for the state government's interactions with overseas Keralites. The platform was designed to leverage the experiences and resources of the diaspora for the state's development priorities.

Satheesan emphasized that the UDF government does not intend to resurrect the body in its previous operational structure. The clarification comes amid discussions about how Kerala engages with its significant diaspora population, a critical economic and social constituency for the state.

The decision reflects the UDF's distinct governance philosophy and priorities in managing state-diaspora relations. Whether the government will introduce alternative mechanisms for diaspora engagement remains to be seen, though current indications suggest a departure from the LDF-era model will persist under the present administration.
