Kerala utility extends power line relocation scheme for PMAY-LIFE beneficiaries

The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has extended its power line relocation assistance programme for economically disadvantaged households, broadening eligibility to include beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-LIFE (PM Awas Yojana-Livelihood Improvement for Empowerment) scheme. The reopened initiative will remain operational until March 31, 2027, providing expanded access to those seeking to shift electrical poles and transmission lines from their residential premises.

The scheme addresses a critical infrastructure challenge in densely populated areas where overhead power distribution networks frequently traverse private properties, restricting construction and expansion activities. By facilitating the relocation of these installations, the KSEB aims to enhance housing development opportunities for lower-income families while improving electrical safety and service delivery.

The inclusion of PM Awas Yojana-LIFE beneficiaries represents a significant policy alignment between the state electricity board and the central government's affordable housing initiative. The LIFE component specifically targets rural and semi-urban populations, making the power line relocation scheme particularly valuable for households upgrading their dwellings under the national programme.

Eligible applicants can now approach the KSEB to initiate the relocation process for power infrastructure on their properties. The extended timeline through March 2027 provides an adequate window for beneficiaries to avail themselves of the facility as they undertake construction or renovation projects.
